P. O. Box 181, Buffalo, ND 58011
The Buffalo Historical Society, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a purpose of preserving the history of Buffalo and the local region, and promoting our shared culture and heritage through community events and educational opportunities.

The Historical Society owns three buildings in Buffalo; the Calvary Episcopal Church Rectory which opened as the Margaret Fraase Public Library in 1998; the Old Stone Church which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996 and received a National Trust for Historic Preservation Honor Award; and the Historic 1916 Buffalo High School which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The school closed in 1978 and after many years of neglect, it became the property of the Buffalo Historical Society who has worked with the City of Buffalo Historic Preservation Commission and the ND State Historical Society to obtain federal funding for qualified projects through the CLG Grant Program.

Major renovations at the school include electrical and lighting, heating and cooling, walls and windows, plumbing, restrooms and a food prep area; as well as brick tuck pointing and masonry repairs, new guttering, new roof, new sidewalks, and the installation of a handicap ramp and parking pad. During the last several years the focus has been on replacing concrete floors in the large basement and installing necessary drain tile.

The Historic 1916 Buffalo High School is once again a viable and important part of the community and the surrounding area as a center for learning and a gathering place for cultural programs, events, meetings, reunions, and special celebrations. It is keeping history alive and is an important example of historic preservation. When our heritage is preserved, it not only allows for our history to be passed down from generation to generation, but also means historical sites can play a role in the economic development of our region.
